About me
My career has been characterized by interdisciplinarity. I received my B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Control Theory and Digital Systems from EESC-USP (Escola de Engenharia de São Carlos, Universidade de São Paulo, Brazil) in 2011. I received my M.Sc. degree in 2013 and my Ph.D. degree in 2017, both in Computer Science and Computational Mathematics, from ICMC-USP (Instituto de Ciências Matemáticas e de Computação, Universidade de São Paulo, Brazil). I have been involved in research since the third year of my undergraduate studies. During my Master’s degree, I focused on studying how complex systems can contribute to machine learning algorithms and vice versa. During my Ph.D. and the first years of my postdoc, I focused more on spreading processes in single and multilayer networks, e.g., the spread of diseases. During my Ph.D., I also received a scholarship (FAPESP-BEPE) for an internship with Professor Yamir Moreno at the University of Zaragoza. Later, during my postdoc, motivated by social models in group-structured populations, I decided to start studying hypergraphs, which is currently my main line of research. Currently, I hold the position of Team Leader at the CENTAI Institute in Turin, a newly founded research institute, where I lead a team of seven members, including five researchers and two graduate students.
I am interested in nonlinear dynamics and stochastic processes in complex networks and structured populations. More specifically, I focus on epidemics and rumor spreading in single- and multi-level systems. I am also interested in the structural characterization of multilayer networks, mainly through spectral theory. Recently, I have also been involved in the study of higher-order interactions and hypergraphs, both from a structural and a dynamical point of view.
